Dave Newell is in his fourth season with the Yellow Jacket staff and will work with the linebackers. He also is BW's Florida Connection and has brought a number of young men to BW from the Sunshine State.
Coach Newell is the senior member of the staff in terms of coaching years with 48 total years of experience. He is a 1969 graduate of the University of Akron and earned his master's degree from Akron in 1974.
Coach Newell began his career as a student coach at the University of Akron in 1968, moved to Warren G. Harding High School (1969-71), Canton McKinley H.S. (1971-74), the University of Akron (1974-85), Copley H.S. (1986-87), Marietta College (1987-88), West Orange H.S. (1988-1990), Apopka H.S. (1997-1998), Winter Park H.S. (1999-2004) and Apopka (2004-2012). His highlights include helping to coach an Akron team that advanced to the Grantland Rice Bowl in 1968, to an NCAA Division II national runner-up finish in 1976 and into the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs in 1985, and helping Apopka H.S. win the 2012 Florida High School Athletic Association 8A state title.
